About me

My  Cambridge degree straddled English and law.

I was a tax partner at Freshfields for fifteen years. So I had to explain complicated ideas and structures in a way anyone could understand.

I was convinced that the firm’s reputation would stand or fall by the quality of its writing. So I worked to establish a culture of excellent writing throughout the firm.

I am now an independent consultant. I help law firms and other businesses who want to achieve written excellence: from technical drafting to emails of advice, from client briefings to pitches for new business.

Good writing habits should begin early. So I am helping to develop a writing programme for undergraduates studying law at Southampton University. This will break new ground.
